Discover the Córdoba Centenary Taverns Tour

A symbol of Córdoba’s gastronomic history

Step into the traditional temples, guardians of gastronomic memory, and iconic wine spots from the Montilla-Moriles appellation of origin. On this walking tour, we will explore the gastronomic history of Córdoba, thanks to its centenary taverns.

What is a tavern in Córdoba? It is a symbol, an institution, of the art of eating and drinking in Córdoba society. With the heritage of the Roman tavern, this guided tour will make your mouth water. We will explain the history of each tavern that has been open for 100 years, the way people drink and eat there, and how this model has been perpetuated over the years, becoming a symbol of enlightened Cordobanism.

Social gathering places, temples of slow food, where time stops, and you can speak with a stranger in a friendly way, while admiring flamenco iconography and art on the walls. Traditionally, Córdoba was a place of taverns, not restaurants. We will dive into this important distinction, where music (flamenco) plays a major role.

We will explain the idiosyncrasy of the legendary Cordoban tavern keeper, the way of drinking in “catavinos”, and the differences between a glass and half a glass of wine in this special container. We will discuss the concept made in Córdoba of the old “Jeweller’s Taverns” and the relationship between wine and the business world.

This route is guided by sommeliers, not historians, where the gastronomic value is explained in an authentic and unique way by the experts in the field. It’s history that you eat and drink. We are members of the Asociación de Guías Gastronómicos de Andalucía (Gastronomic Guides Association of Andalusia), and in 2024, we were awarded as the Best Gastro-Tourism Company in Córdoba by the Association “Sabores de Córdoba”.

What makes this route special? In 2024, the Córdoba City Hall awarded a distinction to 12 taverns that have been open for more than 75 years without interruption, and we want to showcase this eno-gastronomic heritage in a personalized way to those visiting Córdoba.
