Km Gins to celebrate International Gin Day
By Mara de Miguel.
It was the trendy drink 10 years ago, everyone said that the gin and tonic fever would pass, and that vodka would take over the market, or that rum would return. But it hasn’t been. For 10 years, we have learned to season with all types of botanicals and become experts in drinking drier, more floral gins, triple distilled, or distilled from grapes, accompanied from traditional lemon to pink pepper, licorice or flower. of hibiscus.
Each person looks for the brand they like the most, or the one that marketing or good bartenders have made fashionable. Even so, there are some of them that remain unknown in the eyes of consumers.
In the province of Córdoba we have several distilleries and companies that have released gins with which to enjoy the most unique flavor. Today I propose to have an after-dinner Gin&Tonic with that Cordoban touch .
MayGin, the authentic flavor to Mayo
We start with MayGin , a Cordoban gin designed by Paco Rosales and Jóse Ropero , in 2014. This gin represents a Cordoban patio pot, above all. Inside, it is made from obtaining a neutral grain alcohol, of exceptional softness after triple distillation. Regarding the botanicals we have: juniper berries , cardamom, coriander, lemon peel, sweet and bitter orange peel. The result is a very balanced and aromatic gin .
Gin Marquesa de Mil Paladares de la Ñ
From the countryside area we have Mil Paladares de la Ñ , which are located in Fernan-Nuñez. They make several types of gin and other after-dinner spirits.
Gin Ñ La Marquesa is one of its brands. Pink in color, it has ingredients such as nutmeg, juniper, coriander, green cardamom, orange peel, lemon peel, allspice and hibiscus flower , which gives it a touch of color. A gin that its creators define as elegant, refined and flirtatious.
Cannabis or Pedro Ximenez, other gins
Gin Ñ Elite, Cannagin or the PX Ginebra , brewed with Pedro Ximenez wine, are other of their premium gins, which surprise by being riskier.
In addition, they have a line of Gin with flavors such as pear, melon, strawberry, or Aloe Vera Gin , and thus a total of 12 gins.
As a curiosity , they are now in flask format in some supermarkets in Córdoba, with 20 cl bottles ideal for taking away.
La Campiña and Subbética have their own gins
In Montilla, for its part, we have the Cruz Conde wineries that have been betting on SK gin for years . In two SK Wilberry versions, the wild fruit dry one, which is pink, and the SK Dry Gin, which is blue.
In the Subbética area, from Duende Destilerías there are two interesting and less known options: on the one hand Memí Gin , from the patios with Duende de Rute, and on the other, the Gin Gay gin , London Dry style.
Córdoba blue, I love you blue
If we return to Córdoba capital , there is another lesser-known brand which is Thorneus special blackberry and raspberry gin , it is made 100% artisanal, with water from Granada, where it is distilled, although it is bottled in Córdoba.
The final product is an aromatic and bluish distillate . It has a soft and juicy flavor of wild fruits, among others. For the more daring, there is also the Thorneus Special Orange-Tangerine Gin .
Although it is not made in Córdoba, there is one gin left, which is Larios 12 Córdoba , which is a special edition released by the original Andalusian company, for Mayo Cordobés, although we will have to wait until next year’s shipment to taste it.
